adidas, Scheinfeld
At the time of our study, Scheinfeld in Middle Franconia was the last site where adidas still manufactured shoes itself. The fact that production continues here is in itself a sign of continuity and sustainability. Our study makes this attitude visible by “implanting” elements of a biotope into the factory grounds.
The aim is an environment that inspires employees, welcomes visitors appropriately and also makes a positive contribution to the town as a whole.
The defining feature is a series of transparent roofs whose shape recalls abstracted plants. Like leaves, they spread protectively over the site, providing shade and shelter from the weather. At ground level, the grey asphalt that has dominated until now is interrupted by green planting beds, transforming the factory into a more open, friendlier landscape.
The cafeteria is given a generous, sheltered outdoor area that invites people to linger. It is part of a continuous covered area extending all the way to the gatehouse. Visitors can thus walk from the entrance to the reception in the administration building without getting wet, experiencing the site’s new atmosphere along the way.
