Chapel of St. Otto Church | Lauf an der Pegnitz
The chapel’s originally low and oppressive ceiling was visually dissolved through a precise architectural intervention. Gudrun Wurlitzer designed a backlit glass ceiling that gives the room a new sense of height, lightness and an almost immaterial quality.
The artistic design was created by Martin Honert. His work is based on photographs of the sky above Lauf, which were transferred onto the illuminated ceiling surface. The result is the site-specific installation “Der Himmel über Lauf” – “Heaven”, bringing architecture, light and art together in a unified spatial experience.
