Milchhof House for Culture and Commerce Nuremberg
Extension and New Construction
as an extension building for the “Milchhof”: listed building by Otto Ernst Schweizer, built from 1929-1931. Former administrative building of the milk supply in Nuremberg. Since its revitalization, it has become a gallery and office building. The new construction houses showrooms and seminar rooms. The complex also includes the Kunstverein Albrecht Dürer – a changing exhibition museum for contemporary art. The old building: stylistically a hybrid form between Bauhaus and Rationalism. The new construction attempts to further develop this laconic language into the present. It appears as an independent cube, whose volume is interrupted by large windows, which are dimensioned razor-thin up to the limit of the skeleton.
Location existing building. The historic glass facade was replicated based on old photos in collaboration with the monument conservator.
